When you throw a stone into a pond, you can immediately see the ripples cascading across the water. But what happens below the surface? To the stone? To the fish in the surrounding area? To the sandy bottom of the pond?

Similarly, there are seen and unseen consequences to every decision we make. So, how do you measure the influence and actions of a life? We’re interested in examining those things that can leave a lasting impression (good or bad).

Prompt 1: What does making a difference in the world mean to you?

Prompt 2: Who has made the biggest impact on your life? Why?

Prompt 3: This photo above shows a fork in the road. Write about a time when you were unsure which path to take and the impact it ultimately had in your life.

Exercise: In the movie “Sliding Doors” (1998), the main character, Helen, is trying to catch a train so she can rush home after being fired from her job. The movie shows 2 parallel universes - one where she catches the train and another where she’s too late. Her two “lives” end up being wildly different. So, think about an important decision that you’ve made recently. Write about it from both perspectives - what life is like now that you’ve made the decision, and what you think it would have looked like if you decided to do the opposite.
