As a young girl I spent a lot of my time fascinated with the internet. At almost 30, I grew up when the internet was a pretty new and magical universe. Building a website was not as easy as signing up and grabbing a template, and a blog was not even a real word yet. I developed the blogger bug when I was about 13 years old. I started building websites on AOL page builder and grew my skills from there. I even created and managed my own newsletter within AOL. I loved music so I would create links on my website to let people send an email to subscribe to my list. I then manually added every email to my list. At the time you had to get special permission from AOL to send out an email to that many people. I spent hours creating layouts with photos and colorful lines to separate sections all within a simple email. When someone wanted to unsubscribe? I had to manually remove them from my list.
Fast forward a few years to the revolution of Myspace. As a blogger I'd already been all over anything that even resembled a modern day social media network, it was just part of the world I was in. Exploring ways to chat with other bloggers and get my website out there was all part of the game. Naturally I became quite good at using social media to get my messages across. Every time a new platform popped up, I was all over it.
When Facebook finally introduced their Business Pages I knew bigger things would come from this. I remember saying to my (now) husband back in 2008 "watch, every business is going to need help with this soon. Every business will want to be on Facebook and Twitter". If only I'd known just how right I was at the time.
Thankfully I put my head down and focused on staying on top of everything coming from the major social media players. I eventually landed a job while I was still in college with a branding and design firm. The owner had seen my blog and wanted me to manage social media for them and their clients. I was good at what I did, especially during a time when so few business owners had the slightest clue how to leverage social media.
As I got more into the marketing side of social media I felt like just when I had figured out an awesome way to make something happen Facebook would go and change everything. I've helped businesses through the world of Facebook landing pages, fan gating, creating contests, cover photos, and a whole lot of other things that are drastically different today.
After years working with the smaller businesses, and even companies as large as What To Expect When You're Expecting, I decided I wanted to do this on my own terms. In July of this year I launched Pierce Social. As you might have gathered from my story by now I have never been one to sit back and watch life happen, being an entrepreneur is something I must have been born to do. As a photographer and a marketing professional I'm able to offer social media strategy, management, and styled stock photography to my clients.
Since launching my own business I have been able to connect with some amazing business owners and the serious feeling of accomplishment motivates me every day. I am a mom now to two beautiful little girls, ages 3 and 9 months, and thanks to the skills I have developed throughout life I am in a position to be able to work on my own time. I want to be able to be home with my babies and be a big part of their lives the way I want to and not dictated by a boss or corporation. I have spent many years working for other companies and it feels amazing to be investing the time and confidence in myself to make my dreams come true.
